It can be up to two metres long – the aluminium component that we machine on our diamond milling machines, the “fly cutters”.
Flatnesses of 100 nanometers per 100 millimetres of length are possible (taking into account the support points agreed with the customer), and the machined surfaces are uniformly shiny or even reflective.
Such components can ideally be used as an axis in an air-bearing coordinate measuring machine; separate reworking of the bearing running surfaces is then not required. Our customers in the field of measuring machine construction appreciate these inexpensive precision components!

It’s a matter of a few nanometers – in the semiconductor industry wafers are positioned, in optics industry lenses are mounted – with this level of accuracy.
It goes without saying that components for systems in this area have to meet the most stringent requirements in terms of shape and position tolerances (GD&T).
Here we use “conventional” CNC milling machines equipped for high-precision requirements as well as our own micro-machining machines “MicroMaster”, which are configured for a variety of processes such as micro-grinding or diamond boring, extensive sensors for process and product monitoring.

Rangefinders, scanners – we not only build the optics for these, but also, for example, precision housing plates to accommodate the actuators and optics. Often with integrated alignment mirrors to simplify assembly.

High precision machining equipment is one side, another important aspect is our excellent coordinate measuring technology – the combination of both enables Kugler to meet the specifications of most demanding mechanical and optomechanical designs. And if required, we also offer the assembly of complete precision assemblies!
Our
Experience / Expertise
Kugler started with interferometers – well proven and highly renowned, high-precision measuring equipment for the optical industry as well as for the semiconductor industry. The devices were not limited to the purely optical and metrological part, but also featured high precision mechanical stages for workpiece movement and positioning – that was certainly a unique selling point 30 years ago.
Today we enable our customers to use mechanical high precision to ensure the functionality of their products, to save costs (e.g. through reduced alignment effort), to build more precise devices – in essence to become better!
